SMALL GROUP FAQ's
What is a small group?
A Small Group is made up individuals who meet regularly to study, to share, and to support one another in their lives. Each group is led by a leader and a typical meeting lasts for an hour and a half to two hours, preceded or followed by light refreshments.
Why are small groups important?
Here at PEMC we consider Small Groups to be a central part of our ministry. Small Groups are designed to be the place where change takes place. Change in habits, attitudes, and character ... all the things that being in community and growing in Christ is about.
We want to GROW and mature and Small Groups are the place where we can encourage, support, and challenge one another to deepen our relationship with Christ.
What will we study?
Our Small Groups go through various studies, the topics of which are most often expanded upon Sunday mornings in the sermon.
Material is carefully selected by our Senior Pastor and Elders, and is geared to spritual development based on Biblical principles.
Are there any 'specialized' small groups?
Periodically we offer short-term, specialized groups, such as marriage enrichment or parenting groups.
Who leads the small groups?
Each group has a leader and host. The leader is a PEMC Member, approved by the Senior Pastor and Elders, and trained in Small Group leadership. The host(s) open their home for the Small Group to meet, and often provide refreshments, etc.
How long does a group last?
Our desire is that groups will stay together throughout the entire year and gel together, being a prayer support and encouragement for one another.
Do small groups run during the summer?
Generally, our Small Groups run from September to June; taking the summer off.
What is the required commitment?
Joining a Small Group requires a commitment to attend the meetings as often as possible.
This commitment is the key to strong relationships and healthy groups.
There is the expectation of confidentiality within a group, as well as a desire to make an effort to know and grow with the people in the group.
A Small Group is designed to be a safe place for people to come and share their hearts, their needs, praises and prayer concerns.
